IPOH, April 7 — Veteran actress Datin Noor Azizah Azizul Hassan passed away at her residence in Kampung Sungai Paloh here early this morning.
According to Bernama, chairman of the Artistes Welfare Foundation (YKAT) Datuk DJ Dave, who confirmed the matter, said he was informed about the passing of the 79-year-old famous actress by her daughter, Khairena.
“The body will be taken to the Paloh Mosque in Ipoh and the burial is expected after Zuhur today. The deceased passed away around 3 am due to shortness of breath.
“Actually, she (Noor Azizah) was okay before this, she returned to the village to celebrate Hari Raya (Aidilfitri). If I have the chance, I want to go (to the burial),” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
The deceased became known through the film Dayang Senandong in 1965, playing the role of Princess Mawarni, before her name rose in the art scene by starring in films such as Raja Bersiong and Enam Jahanam.
Noor Azizah acted in about 20 films, including Sri Andalas, Jangan Tinggal Daku, Durjana, Laksamana Do Re Mi, and Malim Kundang.
Born in Kinta, Perak, the deceased was honored to star in the Indonesian production film Malin Kundang alongside famous actor Rano Karno, and Jangan Kau Tangiskan.Noor Azizah also starred in the Australian series Bailey Bird in 1977, playing the role of Doctor Susan Lim.
Meanwhile, the secretary-general of the Malaysian Artistes Association (Seniman) Hafiz Nafiah, in a statement, informed that the deceased, who had two children, suffered from kidney disease and underwent dialysis treatment.
Seniman also expressed condolences on the passing of the actress and described the creative industry as losing a very talented actress.
“The top leadership and the exco members of Seniman extend their condolences to the entire family of the deceased and we pray that the deceased is placed in heaven,” he said.
